AFRICAN MAHOGANY
African Mahogany in the Khaya genus. The heartwood is a light pink-brown that darkens when cut to a reddish-brown. It has a medium to coarse texture and a straight to interlocked grain, which can yield a striped or roe figure. Color tends to darken with age. Mahogany also exhibits an optical phenomenon known as chatoyancy.
CHATOYANCY
You may not know the term “chatoyance”, but you’ve probably seen it. The term derives from the French word “chatoyer”, which means “to shine like a cat’s eye.” If you’ve ever seen the semi-precious stone tiger’s eye, you get the idea. In woodworking, chatoyance is a similarly striking optical quality in which areas of light and dark grain shift and change position depending on the angle of view.
AFRICAN BLACKWOOD
(Dalbergia melanoxylon) Purplish black to dark brown with black streaks. The grain is mostly straight with a fine texture. A firm, heavy wood with exceptionally good working qualities. Cuts very smoothly and evenly, taking an excellent finish
PERUVIAN WALNUT
(Juglans spp.) Heartwood is darker than domestic walnut, with a deep chocolate brown color, and may contain streaks of lighter colored wood. Native to Mexico.
MAPLE
(Acer saccharum) sapwood color ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream color, sometimes with a reddish or golden hue. The heartwood tends to be a darker reddish brown.
Finish is Non toxic-food safe. Purely organic 100% White Bees Wax. Highest of quality
